Sara E Mason

I moved to Iowa City in the summer of 2010 to establish the Mason Group, which practices and develops Computational Chemistry at the University of Iowa.  Here you can learn a little bit of what I did prior to coming to Iowa.

Education:

NIST-NRC Postdoctoral Fellow, National Institute of Standards and Technology (2007-2010)

Advisor: Dr. Anne M. Chaka

Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Pennsylvania (2007)

Thesis Advisor: Prof. Andrew M. Rappe

B.S. in Chemistry (minor in math), Summa Cum Laude, St. John Fisher College (2001)

Undergraduate Research Advisor: Prof. Leslie Schwartz

A.A.S. in Chemical Technology, Monroe Community College (1999)

Here are links to my past affiliations:

My hometown is Pittsford, NY, a suburb of Rochester, NY. I stayed in/near my hometown for both of my undergraduate degrees, then moved to Philadelphia, PA for graduate school. I subsequently lived and worked as a postdoc in Gaithersburg, MD (in the DC-metro area) before moving to Iowa City in June, 2010.

I avidly listen to many styles of music and was a decent French hornist through high school. I enjoy coffee, and I startle easily.

Me in the summer of 2002, starting research during graduate school...

...And in spring 2007, moments after completing my Ph.D. defense seminar.
